“Soo-e Qasd be Zat-e Homayouni” (“The Attempt on His Majesty’s Life”) by Reza Julaei is an engaging and captivating story set in the late Constitutional era. "سوء قصد به ذات همایونی" اثر "رضا جولایی"، داستانی است جذاب و خواندنی که در اواخر دوران مشروطه رخ می دهد. "رضا جولایی"، داستان را با ترور "محمدعلی شاه" آغاز نموده و سپس روایت زندگی یکایک افراد دخیل در ترور را به همراه نحوه ی آشنایی شان با همدیگر، از کودکی تا حال به تصویر می کشد. به این ترتیب هر یک از فصول کتاب "سوء قصد به ذات همایونی" مختص به یکی از این افراد بوده و "رضا جولایی" در لا به لای این فصل ها، نقش سایر افراد مرتبط به ترور را نیز بیان می کند. در انتهای داستان "سوء قصد به ذات همایونی" سرنوشت و سرانجام این افراد را پس از اتفاق اقتادن ترور در می یابیم.
این اثر موفق شده تصویر قابل توجهی را از شرایط فرهنگی و اجتماعی در دهه ی بیست تهران در اختیار مخاطب قرار دهد. شخصیت پردازی درخشان و قابل باور "رضا جولایی" در تلفیق با چندین شخصیت حقیقی، جنبه ی پویایی به داستان داده است و با وجود اینکه رمان "سوء قصد به ذات همایونی" به طور غالب از دریچه نگاه سوم شخص روایت می شود، لحن کنایی و طعنه های نویسنده به عملکرد و افکار شخصیت ها، فضایی مفرح و جذاب را در خواندن آن به وجود می آورد. این داستان گیرا و پرحادثه که حاصل تسلط نویسنده بر فضای اجتماعی و سیاسی حاکم بر آن دوره ی تاریخی است، آن چنان در گره زدن اتفاقات حقیقی با تخیل و قصه پردازی موفق بوده که خواننده را به هیچ وجه دچار دوگانگی نخواهد کرد و قصه ای یکپارچه و جذاب را پیش روی او خواهد گذاشت.
